Texas Math and Science Diagnostic System (TMSDS)
About TMSDS
The Texas Math and Science Diagnostic System (TMSDS) is a web-based diagnostic assessment tool provided free to all Texas public and charter schools. TMSDS allows teachers to pinpoint student strengths and weaknesses and then tailor instruction accordingly.
Contents and Capabilities
TMSDS contains content covering grades 3-8, Algebra I, Algebra II , Geometry, Biology, Chemisty and Physics TEKS. This content takes several forms, and including an item bank that educators may use to create their own assessments, quizzes or homework, and diagnostic tests that assess critical skills at each grade level. Content is available in both English and Spanish. TMSDS is a diagnostic and teaching tool, not a high stakes testing preparatory tool.
Eligible Users
Both educators and students at any Texas public K-12 school can use TMSDS. Educators can use the system to administer diagnostic tests (or self-created materials) online or print tests and materials out for paper and pencil administration. Students can log in to TMSDS and take teacher-assigned tests, quizzes and homework. TMSDS is browser-based so no additional software is required and it is accessible 24 hours a day from any Internet-connected computer.
Getting Access
Accessing TMSDS is simple. School districts sign up to use the system and indicate which educators and students should be able to access the system. TMSDS is designed for school district-level sign up only. Individual campuses or users cannot register to use TMSDS (this avoids duplicated efforts and data confusion). Districts may elect to make TMSDS available to one, some or all of their campuses as they feel appropriate. Districts can sign up to use TMSDS at any time during the school year. For more information on the sign up process, click the “Sign Up” link on the TMSDS home page.
Training
Education Service Centers (ESCs) can provide schools with expert training on how to effectively use TMSDS. ESCs offer TMSDS training on a cost-recovery basis. Contact your local ESC math content specialist for more information.
