Algebra II Training

About
The requirements of a fourth year of math for Texas high school students is placing heavier curriculum focus on the ability of students to be successful in Geometry and Algebra II coursework. However, instruction in these courses often does not readily reveal connections to concepts that have been taught in earlier math courses such as Algebra I. To address this, the Algebra II Professional Development Project has created training that focuses on effectively teaching Algebra II TEKS and integrating Algebra II curricula with Geometry and Algebra I TEKS. This professional development has been created in partnership with Texas A&M University and Region IV Education Service Center.
Description
The Algebra II Professional Development module (and its companion Geometry Professional Development module) trains teachers on how to effectively tie Algebra II material back to foundational skills taught earlier in the high school math instructional sequence. The Algebra II training also guides educators in how to make more effective concrete connections among math TEKS throughout the high school mathematics coursework block. The final major component of the training involves developing successful lesson plans for Algebra II TEKS and sharpening the use of proven instructional strategies to advance student capability.
