Texas Algebra Ready

Texas Algebra Ready Initiative: Adding Opportunity for Texas Children

Elementary Students in Texas: Algebra Ready (ESTAR) and Middle School Students in Texas: Algebra Ready (MSTAR) Universal Screeners

The ESTAR/MSTAR Universal Screeners are a formative assessment system administered to students in grades 2-8 to support instructional decisions. The content of the ESTAR/MSTAR Universal Screener is based on algebra-readiness skills as identified in the Texas Response to Curriculum Focal Points. Results can help teachers identify students who are in need of additional instructional support in their development of knowledge and skills that relate directly to algebra readiness. Teachers will be able to monitor students' risk status by administering comparable forms of the ESTAR/MSTAR Universal Screeners in fall, winter, and early spring.

To accommodate for late school starts and related issues due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the fall administration windows for the ESTAR/MSTAR Universal Screeners and Diagnostic Assessments are being extended as follows:

  • Universal Screener – open until November 20, 2020
  • Diagnostic Assessment – open until December 4, 2020

The 2020-2021 Administration Windows for the ESTAR/MSTAR Universal Screener have been scheduled as follows:
Fall: August 24, 2020 - November 20, 2020
Winter: January 11, 2021 - February 12, 2021
Spring: April 19, 2021- May 14, 2021
